Color of the Year

In the world of color and paint, it’s the biggest announcement of all: Pantone’s pick for Color of the Year. And the color for 2014 is Radiant Orchid!

I’m over the moon with this choice, because it’s one of my favorites. I even used this color in my wedding many years ago. And the funny thing is, I was talking last Spring about how I had a feeling pinks were going to be really hot (did you catch that video blog of mine?) I’m so excited that not only did my prediction come true, I was a little ahead of the trend!

I’m really looking forward to seeing how this shade trickles down into home decor. What I love about this particular shade is how versatile it is. You can incorporate it into any color scheme using as little or as much as you want. Take for instance this heavenly little vignette we posted on our Facebook page a few weeks ago…

Doesn’t it feel like the most perfect little sanctuary you could escape into?

One of my favorite elements of this room is the floor. I love the chevron/herringbone design, the kind found in centuries-old chateaus. I have the same design in my very own office; it’s modern, but has a very classic feel.

The wallpaper is gorgeous too. I really want to wallpaper a room in my own house this year, perhaps the library or the family room. And of course the settee! It’s one of the fundamental styles of French design.

In this room I also love the chandelier, and the beautiful window treatments!

Last year’s Pantone color was emerald, but I feel sure that this one will show up a lot more in home decor. It really serves to add a pop of style to interiors, like in this jaw-droppingly pretty library. I simply love how the classic molding looks when contrasted with the orchid shade. What do you think of this painted library – love it or leave it? Personally, I love it, I am inspired by color in so many different ways.

So where does the color of the year usually appear? You will probably see it in wallpaper colors, textiles, pillows, art, and even accessories.

What do you think about the Color of the Year? Do you love it? Hate it? Can’t wait to bring it into your home? I know I’m excited about using this shade. I am lucky: I already have a pop of it with this gorgeous silk toile-inspired fabric on a pair of pillows in my own home!

What about you? Will you be decorating with Radiant Orchid this year?
